SCHOOL MEALS

Pupils can buy a freshly prepared hot or cold lunch from the Academy Restaurant. We are proud to offer a wide menu of hot food with dishes inspired by a range of world cuisines. Every day we also have freshly made sandwiches, baguettes, soup, salads, and fruit. All beef and chicken served is Halal. At break and lunch, students can also buy snack food such as fresh muffins or cereal bars. Students consume food within the restaurant, to keep our school environment tidy. We do not permit students to bring in sweets, fizzy drinks or drinks high in sugar. High sugar or caffeine consumption has a negative impact on students’ ability to learn and is detrimental to a healthy lifestyle.

We operate a cashless system in the canteen; students have a lunch card which can be topped up either using the app School Gateway, or with cash in school using the top-up machine. We recommend downloading the School Gateway app to top up your child’s account; it reduces the possibility of lost cash, allows families to set a limit on your child’s spending per day, and track how they are spending their lunch money.

Some families may be eligible for Free School Meals. To apply or see if your child is eligible, please visit the Parents section of The Elms Academy Website. To apply, you need your National Insurance Number to hand and your child’s Date of Birth. Please note, you can only apply once your child is registered with us on the first day.

For students who are eligible for Free School Meals, a hot lunch or sandwich, along with a dessert or drink, will cost £0 each day at lunchtime. If students receiving Free School Meals wish to purchase an additional snack or drink, they must have money on their lunch card.
